DACA

For DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) beneficiaries, the road to a secure future in the United States can be challenging. DACA provides vital protections, including deferred action, safeguarding against deportation, and granting work permits. However, to ensure these benefits continue, it's essential for DACA recipients to maintain their status through timely renewals.

Who Are DACA Recipients?

DACA recipients hail from nearly 150 different birth countries, with around 80% born in Mexico. They reside all over the United States. The average DACA recipient arrived in the U.S. at the age of 7, and many have lived in the country for more than 20 years. Importantly, DACA recipients are parents to over 250,000 U.S. citizen children.

Dreamers are undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children. They often have spent the majority of their lives in the U.S. and identify as Americans. While there are an estimated 3.6 million Dreamers in the U.S., only approximately 653,000 currently enjoy DACA protection. This number represents just a fraction of the total Dreamer population, as DACA stopped accepting new applicants. The majority of Dreamers are currently unprotected, highlighting the urgent need for a permanent solution.

Are New DACA Applications Being Accepted?

No. USCIS is currently not accepting new DACA applications.

When Should I Renew My DACA?

USCIS recommends renewing your DACA between 120 to 150 days before it expires. The earliest date some people report being able to renew their DACA has been 365 days (1 year) before it expires. Use our DACA Renewal Calculator to help you further understand the time frame for your DACA expiration.

My DACA Expired, Can I Still Renew?

It depends. If your DACA status is expired for more than a year, your renewal application will be considered a new application. Currently, USCIS is not processing new DACA applications, making timely renewal critical.

If it hasn't been expired for more than a year, then you can still renew.

Can I Fly Domestically as a DACA recipient?

Yes, DACA recipients are known to be able to travel domestically within the United States.
